Sweden vs Switzerland | World Cup 2018, last 16 | Tuesday, July 3 | Saint Petersburg Stadium
Russia’s shock penalty shootout victory over Spain has blown open this side of the knockout draw, with one of England, Colombia, Croatia, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland certain to reach the final on July 15.
Spain’s defeat ensures that at least one of this year’s finalists will not have reached the title decider for half a century – if at all – and will give the Swiss and the Swedes a timely boost with both sides confident of winning to set up a quarter-final against either England or Colombia.
Sweden take on Switzerland at Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday, July 3, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm BST.
The match will be televised live on BBC One. Viewers can stream the match online via the BBC iPlayer.
You will be able to follow the match with Standard Sport’s dedicated LIVE blog
The two nations have met 27 times before, with both teams winning 10 times and sharing seven draws. Their last meeting, however, came back in 2002 – a 1-1 friendly draw.
Swiss duo Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schar are both suspended, while Sweden will be without midfielder Sebastian Larsson.
Sweden XI: Olsen, Lustig, Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson, Claesson, Svensson, Ekdal, Forsberg, Berg, Toivonen
World Cup 2018 Group F winners Sweden are up against Group E runners-up Switzerland in the round of 16, the winner of whom will play either England or Colombia in the quarter-finals.
